Please note:

When using the Advanced Search option, the CONTAINS operator search can be enhanced using the '?' wildcard which is used for a single character match.

For example, a search for an IPC Mark that contains "B25C1/0?" returns patents that have IPC Marks B25C1/00 and B25C1/02 and so on. It is not necessary to use the multi character wildcard '*' with the CONTAINS operator as this character will automatically be appended to each of your search criterion eg. Entering B25C will be translated into *B25C*.

Note: APPS uses two different IPC Mark formats (eg: B25C1/00 - post 1975 and B25C001/00 - prior 1975). For further details see the 'About' APPS page - Searching APPS.

When searching on names, the use of the 'contains' operator is recommended as the 'equals' operator only returns results for the sole value recorded. Therefore, when searching on a name, the full name must be entered as recorded in the database. For further information on the use of operators, see the Advanced Help section
